About New York Deaf Church

New York Deaf Church is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit religious organization based in Flushing, New York, dedicated to serving the deaf and hard of hearing community through sign language worship, faith education, and international mission work. All services are conducted in American Sign Language (ASL) and Korean Sign Language (KSL).

뉴욕농아인교회는 뉴욕 플러싱에 기반을 둔 비영리 종교단체입니다. 미국수화(ASL)와 한국수화(KSL)를 통해 농인 공동체에 예배, 신앙 교육, 국제 선교 사역을 제공합니다.

Founded in November 2008 in Flushing, New York, our church has grown over 40+ years of deaf ministry experience spanning Korea, China, the United States, and now Mexico. In January 2026, we established Iglesia de Sordos de Cancún — a deaf church in Cancún, Mexico — extending our mission to Latin America.

2008년 11월 뉴욕 플러싱에 개척된 뉴욕농아인교회는 한국, 중국, 미국, 그리고 멕시코에 이르는 40여 년의 농인 사역 경험을 토대로 성장해왔습니다. 2026년 1월, 멕시코 칸쿤에 칸쿤농아인교회(Iglesia de Sordos de Cancún)를 설립하며 라틴아메리카 농인 선교를 시작했습니다.

The First Deaf Family Faith Retreat in Eastern Mexico

For the first time in the history of eastern Mexico, deaf families will gather in Cancún to encounter Jesus Christ — in their own language, through sign language worship and faith education. This retreat marks the beginning of deaf mission in Mexico.

Why This Matters

Deaf individuals in Mexico are among the most spiritually and socially isolated communities in Latin America. Many have never heard the Gospel — not because they reject it, but because it has never been presented in sign language.

The Mexico Deaf Family Faith Retreat brings together deaf families from the Cancún region for 4 days of sign language worship, Bible teaching, and community — the first gathering of its kind in eastern Mexico.

Who Is Serving

🇰🇷 Korean Deaf Pastor

A deaf pastor from Korea will lead worship and Bible teaching in sign language, bringing 40+ years of deaf ministry experience.

🇲🇽 Mexico City Deaf Pastors

A deaf pastor couple from Mexico City will serve as sign language ministry leaders for the retreat program.

🏛️ Local Cancún Church

Local hearing pastors and congregation members in Cancún provide logistical support and volunteer service.

👶 VBS Volunteer Team

Mexican local volunteers and Korean missionaries will lead Vacation Bible School for deaf children alongside their parents.

Children's VBS

Deaf children will join their parents through age-appropriate VBS programs in sign language — led by Mexican volunteers and Korean missionary teachers. / 농인 자녀들도 부모와 함께 어린이 성경학교(VBS)에 참여하게 됩니다.

Where Your Donation Goes

100% of donations go directly to serving deaf families in Mexico. All pastors, teachers, and volunteers serve without compensation — your donation covers the essential costs that make this gathering possible.

🏠 Venue for 100 Participants

Full facility rental for up to 100 deaf family members — main hall, classrooms, dining hall, kitchen, and outdoor spaces for the 4-day retreat.

🍽️ All Meals Included

Three daily meals for all participants throughout the 4 days. Many Mexican deaf families cannot afford food costs on top of travel expenses.

👨‍👩‍👧 Participant Subsidies

Local deaf families pay a small fee according to what each household can afford. Donations cover the gap so no family is turned away due to cost.

📚 Program & VBS Materials

Sign language Bible materials, children's VBS supplies, worship resources, and printed materials for all retreat sessions.

All ministry leaders — pastors, teachers, children's instructors, dining volunteers, and local church partners — serve entirely as dedicated volunteers. Your donation is 100% mission.

Sunday Worship (New York)

Weekly services entirely in American Sign Language at our Flushing, NY location. Open to all deaf and hearing individuals.

Community Support (New York)

Counseling, job assistance, and social services for deaf individuals and families in the New York metropolitan area.

Faith Education (New York)

Sign language–based Bible study and spiritual development programs for all ages at our New York church.

이철희 목사 · 채진이 사모 (李鐵熙牧師)

Lead Pastor — New York Deaf Church

Rev. Cheol Hee Lee at New York Deaf Church

Rev. Cheol Hee Lee (李鐵熙) was born in Seoul in 1969. Since his introduction to sign language in 1986, he has devoted 40 years to deaf ministry. He was ordained as a minister in 2000.

In Korea, he served as lead pastor of Gunsan Deaf Church and Seocheon Deaf Church, and worked as an itinerant missionary supporting the establishment of over 30 deaf churches in northeastern China. He brings over 30 years of international deaf mission experience spanning Korea, China, and Mexico.

In November 2008, he founded New York Deaf Church in Flushing, New York, where he currently serves as Lead Pastor. In January 2026, he established Iglesia de Sordos de Cancún in Cancún, Mexico.

Mrs. Chae Jin Yi has served as ministry partner alongside her husband throughout 40 years of deaf mission work — walking together through Korea, China, the United States, and Mexico in over 30 years of international deaf ministry.

이철희 목사는 1969년 서울 출생으로, 1986년 수화 입문 후 40년간 농인 사역에 헌신해 왔습니다. 2000년 기하성(A/G)에서 목사 안수를 받았습니다.

한국에서 군산농아인교회, 서천농아인교회 담임을 역임했으며, 중국 동북지역 농아인교회 30여 개 설립을 지원하는 순회선교사로 활동했습니다. 한국, 중국, 멕시코를 아우르는 해외 농인 선교사역 경력이 30년 이상입니다.

2008년 11월 뉴욕 플러싱에 뉴욕농아인교회를 개척하여 현재 담임목사로 섬기고 있으며, 2026년 1월 멕시코 칸쿤농아인교회(Iglesia de Sordos de Cancún)를 설립했습니다.

채진이 사모는 이철희 목사의 사역의 동반자로서 40년에 걸친 농인 선교 현장을 함께 섬겨왔습니다. 한국, 중국, 미국, 멕시코에 이르는 해외 사역 30년 이상의 발자취를 남편과 함께 걸어왔습니다.

김진성 목사 · 조영숙 사모 (金珍成牧師)

Associate Pastor — New York Deaf Church

Rev. Jin Sung Kim and Mrs. Young Sook Cho

Rev. Jin Sung Kim (金珍成) is a deaf pastor, a native of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. From 2002 to 2018, he served as Lead Pastor of Jinju Eva Deaf Church (Jinju, South Korea), and held positions as President of the Jinju Deaf Association and Director of the Jinju Sign Language Interpretation Center.

Since 2018, he has served as Associate Pastor of New York Deaf Church.

In the field of sports, he served as a board member of the Korean Deaf Bowling Association (2009–2016) and President of the Gyeongnam Deaf Bowling Association. He represented Gyeongnam Province in national deaf bowling competitions and served as Team Captain of the Korean national team at the 3rd World Deaf Bowling Championships (2015). He received an excellence award representing Gyeongsang Province at the 2016 National Deaf Bowling Tournament.

He holds certifications as a Sign Language Interpreter (2010), Social Worker (2015), Korean Shuffleboard Association Referee (2016), and Special Olympics Bowling Referee & Instructor (2007). He participated in deaf mission work in Thailand (2019) and is the founding president of the New York Deaf Bowling Club.

Mrs. Young Sook Cho is a former national representative athlete and Deaflympics (World Deaf Olympics) medalist — Bronze Medalist at the Rome Deaflympics.

김진성 목사는 농인(Deaf) 목회자입니다. 전남 목포 출신으로 2002년부터 2018년까지 진주에바다농아교회 담임목사로 사역했으며, 진주농아인협회장, 진주수화통역센터장을 역임했습니다.

2018년부터 뉴욕농아인교회 부목사로 섬기고 있습니다.

스포츠 분야에서 한국농아인볼링협회 이사(2009–2016), 경남농아인볼링협회장으로 활동했으며, 2015년 세계농인볼링선수권대회(3rd World Deaf Bowling Championships) 한국 대표팀 주장을 역임했습니다. 수화통역사(2010), 사회복지사(2015), 스페셜올림픽 볼링 심판·강사(2007) 자격을 보유하고 있습니다. 뉴욕농아인볼링클럽 창설 대표입니다.

조영숙 사모는 전 국가대표 데프림픽(Deaflympics, 세계농인올림픽) 선발선수로, 로마 데프림픽 동메달리스트입니다.
